The past two decades of my life have been amazing, and I bless God for the gracious and fulfilling journey so far. It’s been one of walking with God, learning to trust Him while He holds my hands and leads me to the best path. It’s indeed a privilege to witness another year of wholeness.

The past year was not without its challenges and difficulties. With every challenge faced, I chose not only to go through the moment but to draw lessons that helped me have a better outlook on life and inadvertently increase my quality of life. As one interested in sharing knowledge and ensuring that I have a community that also thrives, here are ten (10) lessons I learnt from the past year.

Commitment to Growth through a Mindset Reorientation: In the past year, I realised that my mind is a great weapon given to me by the Lord to accomplish great things. As I went on the growth journey, I discovered that it is my responsibility to grow and nurture my mind because only then can I accomplish all that God has for me. As I studied how this can be accomplished, I soon discovered that the Word of God is a huge resource for much-needed growth. The Word of God is filled with many instructions, teachings, promises and counsels that have shaped my mind as I face life’s challenges. Another thing I learnt to do is listen to great people. I learnt to grow my mind by listening to great minds. This has helped me in no small way as I get to see the possibilities before me.

Trust God:

This past year taught me to trust God wholeheartedly. There were many scriptures and promises that God gave me. Some didn’t seem relevant to my challenges, but I had to trust Him because He alone knows the plans for my life. Some of the instructions from Him seemed foolish, but I learned to trust Him, and I was the better for it. The words of a songwriter capture my thoughts as I think through my trust journey in the past year: “Trusting Jesus, and that is all.”

Are you going through one difficulty or the other? Trust Jesus, Trust in His word; that is all you need.

Time Management and Maximization:

I learnt to manage my time carefully because time is life. Time goes by quickly, and soon enough, the year will be over. I realised that how I spend my time affects the quality of my life. I realised that doing profitable activities like spending time to win souls, studying the word, praying, giving, building capacity, and living purpose will help me gain time and fill me with a sense of good life. On the other hand, spending time gossiping, procrastinating, sleeping, and lazing around is a waste of life. Learn to manage your time as it helps you to live life wisely.

Build quality friendships:

I learnt that having one quality friend is better than having ten friends not adding value to my life. Friendship is by choice and not by force, so carefully select quality friends. I am grateful for the friends that I have around me; though I can count them on my fingers, they are worth more than a thousand friends.

Fear is False:

In the past year, I triumphed over fear by doing the things fear had stopped me from doing. I’d like you to ponder this: what is the one thing you would like to do if you are not fearful? Great, I’m sure you have something in mind now. My admonition to you is DO IT! Fear is unreal. It is fake. Intentionally do what you are afraid of doing, and you will realise that fear has lost its power over you. The following helped me overcome fear: Studying and confessing the word of God, knowing my identity as a child of God and building/renewing my mind.

Intentionally choose Joy:

I learnt that I do not have to wait to accomplish a great feat before I can be joyful. Joy is a fruit of the spirit; Joy is in my reborn spirit, so I can always be joyful. I don’t have to limit being joyful to a particular circumstance before I can be joyful. The joy of the Lord is my strength! Choose Joy, my friend.

Failure is a propellant to Success:

Failing is not the end of life. In the past year, I failed several times, but with each failure, I conquered. I found myself rising above my failures, a testament to the statement that what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger. Each time I failed, I saw myself becoming a better and stronger version of myself. I realised that failure is part of life and is part of my journey to success. I’ve come to live and relieve both experiences with the mindset that failure and success are necessary on my journey.

Try new things:

I can count several things that I tried doing last year for the first time, and I’m glad I did because I learnt valuable lessons from trying. Feel free to try new things. If you don’t try it, how would you know if you can do it? You can write that article and try acting that role, amongst other things. Do not let fear keep you down. Endeavour to try new things, and you will be amazed at how far you can go.

Live in the moment:

Cherish every moment and make it worthwhile. The past is gone; you have the present to enjoy. I learnt to stop living a life of worry, regrets or anxiety because I know that God’s plans for me are plans of peace and not of evil to give me an expected end. I’ve learnt to love this moment of my life because it can never be recovered once it’s gone. I learnt to love and enjoy the people the Lord has placed around me because they might not be there tomorrow.

Maintain a grateful disposition:

In the past year, I learnt to maintain a grateful disposition, expressing gratitude from the deepest part of me. God taught me to learn to look back and see where He brought me from and where I am now. He taught me to stop seeing my weaknesses, focus on my strengths, and be grateful for them. I can confidently say that God has been merciful and kind to me. He has heard my prayers and delivered me from all my fears. He led me beside the still waters and restored my soul. I’m constantly reminded that though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, the Lord is with me, comforting me with His rod and staff. He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies and has anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely, goodness and mercy follow me as I start a new year, and I shall dwell in His house all the days of my life. Amen!

Conclusion

As I enter this new year, I declare that it’s my season of breakthroughs, enormous possibilities, glorious testimonies and wonders. He has anointed my tongues, and I proclaim His words with boldness. My light has come, and His glory rises upon me. It is my season of rejoicing.

Hallelujah! Happy birthday to me!
