MY HAIR
Written By: Eunice Iseoluwa Oyekunle

One of the compliments I have received from people is how fine, full, dark and long my hair is.

Some people would ask me if I had retouched my hair but I would always tell them that it was my natural hair.

People love to touch and play with my hair a whole lot. I remember a teacher at the secondary school I attended who always loved to pack my hair probably because she felt that my long hair might distract me while studying.

Even though almost everyone I come in contact with appreciates my hair, I always wished that my hair wasn’t as long as it was. My hair is so tough and difficult to comb.

If I open my hair for some period of time or wash it, I should be fully expectant of how painful my hair would be whenever I want to make it.

Also, most hairdressers charge a lot to make my hair because they get frightened immediately they sight it.

Also due to the fact that my hair is long, I spend hours at the hair dresser’s place.

Despite all these though, whenever I am done making my hair, I feel so happy and fulfilled. I forget all the pains that I felt while I was making my hair and become happy afterwards. Whenever people see my beautifully plaited hair, they watch it admirably and love it.

………………….
As I have illustrated in the story above, life is not all rosy.

My so call perfect hair isn’t all perfect fect. Yes, it was dark, full and long. Everyone loved to have that type of hair. But they are not aware of how I struggle with my hard and difficult hair.

We cannot have anything on a platter of gold. As Christians, we should not expect that things will go smoothly and nicely because we are children of God but rather we should know that challenges will arise.

Once we are humans, we can’t escape challenges but how we compose ourselves during times of trials and challenges can either make or mar our future.

The Word of God admonishes us that in this world, we shall have trials and persecutions but cheer up because He has overcome the world.

We might be beautiful and intelligent but we are financially handicapped, we shouldn’t be sorrowful because the Word of God says weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

No matter what we are passing through, let us hope for the best.

There is beauty in ashes.

Though my hair was loved by everyone because it was dark, full and long, it was so difficult and painful whenever I wanted to make it but after I make it, I become so proud of my hair, forgetting all the pains that I had felt.

People may see you as someone that is perfect and without pains or struggles but we know ourselves, we know what we are passing through. But our consolation is that after we have passed through difficulties and trials, we will come forth as gold. We will also be proud of ourselves and happily say that we made it. Some people would say that real men are made during the times of challenges and trials.

Joseph was made and refined when he was thrown into the prison so as to become a prime minister in Egypt.

David was being trained by Goliath to fight battles for God.

Esther became an orphan and rose up to become a Queen.

Who knows where God is taking us to after we have gone through the fire of trials and difficulties.

Trust in the lord with all your heart and be patient.

I hope we have been blessed and inspired by this great piece. God bless you all!

Don’t forget to leave me a comment below and share this. God bless you.
